Vengeance- canticle of a Burmese Christian

Grief compelled Hannah’s laughter
Resentment forged Herod’s slaughter
You O Lord, weeps in the heavens
We your children, suffer on earth

Be merciful my Lord, but show no mercy
Be just my God, but forgive no treachery
Vengeance is not for mortal men's taking
But in Your might, Lord, avenge my people

My heart is full of malice
Lepers they rest in palace
How Lord can I love the devil?
Or those in the likeness of his guise?

Day by day your children be slain
Where are you Lord, in the generals’ reign?
Uniformity drives Burma’s fall
Where lepers preach no remorse nor shame

China’s fuel, Than Shwe’s wealth
India’s fear, the junta’s health
Red robed rebels receive no ransom
Grudged green guns insult YOU, O God

ASEAN’s plight ever childish
UN’s prowess ever foolish
What Lord then is your plan?
Why does Your Church cower like the rest?

Why Lord should I forgive these murderers?
Why Lord should YOU forgive these plunderers?
Yet I wait in obedience and trust
Avenge us Lord! My soul cries out in pain

Remember me, my God, for I am faithful
Forget not the pain I endure for Your name
Your gospel, I will preach amidst these trials.
Even to these lepers who afflict the innocent
